A training session with a community group

Programmes that keep going once you let go.

We design and support community programmes that grow from local strengths, are run by residents and keep going after company support ends.

The exit plan is written on day one.

A community development programme turns social spending into businesses and institutions that residents run themselves. We start from local strengths and local champions, and plan the route to self-reliance from the outset. Charitable aid still has its place, in a disaster for instance, as long as it doesn't absorb the budget meant to build independence.

Social spending that keeps paying back.

  • Obligations met

Your programme fulfils your corporate social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) obligation and is properly recorded in the annual report. The obligation applies to companies whose business involves natural resources, and mining companies also prepare a community development (PPM) master plan.

  • Evidence for Green and Gold

PROPER, Indonesia's corporate environmental rating, verifies community development for its Green and Gold ratings, with a growing focus on long-term impact. A self-reliant, well-documented programme gives verifiers the evidence they look for.

  • Costs that come down

A programme run by a community group doesn't need funding forever. Budget can move to new sites or needs without cutting off the benefits already flowing.

  • Calmer community relations

A grievance mechanism with clear channels, response times and feedback settles small issues before they grow. It is also a requirement under international lending standards.

From local strengths to resident-owned businesses.

  1. Redefine

Find the strengths and the people

We use social mapping to find the needs, resources and local champions residents trust. Existing programmes are evaluated first, so what works is kept.

You receive: a map of local potential and champions, plus an evaluation of current programmes.

  2. Design

    Build the programme with residents

We set goals, indicators, budget, roles and a business model with the community group, then test them at small scale. The grievance mechanism and exit plan are agreed at this stage.

You receive: a programme design, a business model, a grievance mechanism and an exit plan.

  3. Accelerate

    Support the group to self-reliance

We support technical training and bookkeeping, then strengthen the group, cooperative or village-owned enterprise (BUMDes) that runs it. We also open doors to regular buyers and local government programmes.

You receive: a community institution with its own rules, officers and market.

  4. Accelerate

    Measure, document, hand over

We measure the programme's outcomes and their social and environmental impact, document it as a social innovation for PROPER, then hand it to the community institution as planned.

You receive: evidence-based social innovation documentation and a recorded handover.

One dataset for CSR reports and PROPER.

Participant, activity and indicator data is often scattered across field officers' notes and separate spreadsheets. Social+ brings it together through programme management and field data, calculates SROI and impact, then builds reports automatically. Your CSR report, PROPER submission and SDG alignment all use the same figures.
